Argentine Juan Martin del Potro beat Leyatn Hewitt 6-2, 6-3 and qualified for the semifinals of the tournament in San Jose, where he will face Fernando Verdasco.
Del Potro managed to break his opponent at the beginning of both sets, not dropped his lead to their end.
"To play four or five games this week is something great for my return. I hope I am in good shape for the semifinals. I feel good this week, but am far from the top of your game. Every day is improving slightly," said Argentine after the victory.
Del Potro in the semifinals will meet seeded first in the main draw Fernando Verdasco, who beat Denis Istomin uzbekistanetsa 6-4, 6-4.
Young Canadian Milos Raonich reached the semifinals of the first ATP tournament of the series in his career, having to deal with another young talent - Richard Berankis.
