Third placed Kim Clijsters began a great way to participate in Australian Open, winning the first round by Dinara Safina 6-0, 6-0.
Belgian beat Safina in just 44 minutes and was in complete control of the meeting. The sister of Marat Safin was a finalist in Australia two years ago, but was a pale shadow of himself in the match against Clijsters.
This is the fourth time that Clijsters leaving your opponent without winning game of the Australian Open since 2003, 2004 and 2007.
Another favorite did leave early - Ana Ivanovic was removed from 49th in the world Ekaterina Makarova 6-3, 4-6, 8-10.
