 | Greer on bringing experienced players to San Jose: It`s important for us to keep the young guys from getting too much pressure. We don`t want them to feel like all the responsibility is on them.31-10-2026 |
The general manager of San Jose spoke about attracting a number of experienced players to the team. In the offseason, the club signed contracts with defensemen John Klingberg and Dmitry Orlov, as well as forward Jeff Skinner.
In addition, the club traded goalie Alex Nedeljkovic and forward Ryan Reaves, and also picked up defenseman Nick Leddy from the St. Louis waiver draft.
In the last two seasons, the Sharks finished last in the overall NHL standings. According to the results of the last regular season, the team`s top scorer was forward McClean Celebrini (he turned 19 on June 13) with 63 (25+38) points in 70 games.
20-year-old forward Will Smith also entered the top 5 scorers with 45 (18+27) points in 74 games.
It is very important for us to protect young guys as much as possible from unnecessary pressure. They made a huge contribution last season. But we don’t want these guys to feel that the entire burden of responsibility for the result lies on their shoulders.
For experienced guys, hope is also important. I`m talking about those who may not have many years of career ahead of them like Celebrini, Smith or Askarov.
We needed to show these players that we were willing to strive for victories, that we didn`t just sell out every year and start again.
Now is the time to move forward and start winning. The fans want to see progress, too, ” Mike Greer said.
