Gael Monfils won his sixth match in a row and reached the second round of the Australian Open. He beat 21-year-old Giovanni Mpetshi Perrikar - 7:6 (7), 6:3, 6:7 (6), 6:7 (5), 6:4. This is Monfils` sixth win in a row - he took the title in Auckland last week.
The Frenchman reached the second round of the Australian Open for the 17th time. It was the 35th Australian Open match win of his career.
Now Monfils’s five-set balance is 4:5 in this tournament and 20:19 in his career.
He will face Francisco Comesaña or Daniel Altmaier in the next round.
