Willie Mitchell is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in 2022. A civil lawsuit has been filed against the former Vancouver, Los Angeles and Florida defenseman. The woman, whose name was not disclosed in the case file, filed a lawsuit against the former hockey player and the Tofino Resort + Marina (British Columbia). She alleges that in September 2022, Mitchell sexually assaulted her while she was heavily intoxicated.
The woman worked as a waitress at Tofino Resort + Marina. According to her, after finishing her shift during a fishing tournament, she went to the pub at the complex, where she allegedly got drunk to the point of apparent loss of control. She has only fragmented memories of the evening of September 11, 2022.
According to the lawsuit, Mitchell took her out of the establishment while she was wearing only one shoe and took her to his home, where he allegedly had unprotected sex with her without express or implied consent.
The next day, the woman contacted the police and then underwent a medical examination by a forensic nurse.
The lawsuit also states that Mitchell`s intentions were obvious to the plaintiff`s co-workers, and rumors of what happened quickly spread throughout the local community. It is also emphasized that Mitchell was 19 years older than the plaintiff and until February 2023 was the director of the resort and a related company.
All charges have not yet been considered by the court. Neither Mitchell nor the resort provided responses to the woman`s testimony.
Plaintiff`s lawyer Sandra Kovacs said her client had suffered a major upheaval in her life and a sharp deterioration in her mental health. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigated, but prosecutors declined to bring criminal charges, she said. At the same time, a civil lawsuit, according to the lawyer, provides an opportunity to consider how similar situations can be prevented in the future.
In addition, the lawsuit states that the plaintiff intends to seek the inclusion of testimony from other women whose stories are similar to hers.

The lawsuit alleges that Mitchell was an employee of the resort and may have provided the client with excess alcohol, which affected her condition.
