Street vendors announced a protest at the Inter and Milan stadiums. An open-ended protest is planned near the Milan stadium, as well as a demonstration in the square as part of the Milan-Bari match, which opens the football season on August 17, Calcio e Finanza reports.
Protesters are demanding a fair solution to the renewal of contracts with 64 duly authorized firms operating near the stadium during matches and concerts.
We are on our site because they want to remove 64 supply chain companies with 800 people who work there during events. We are on our site to protect our jobs.
Street vendors will remain [on our site] until the problem is resolved, Giacomo Errico, a spokesman for the San Siro stadium`s traveling workers committee, responsible for the paraphernalia and food sectors, told reporters.
Errico said that negotiations had been held with M-I Stadio (the company owned by Inter and Milan that manages the San Siro) to renovate workspaces for 64 operators (65% in the food business, 35% in the football business). However, M-I Stadio unilaterally transferred a contract that was no longer subject to change. At the same time, the total financial burden for employees for payments for various purposes is 860, 000 euros per year.
Street vendors wrote letters to Milan, Inter, as well as the mayor of Milan, city councilors, the prefect and the police commissioner.
If they don`t move. . . If they decide to wear us down and leave us on our site until mid-August, we will take another vacation and bring a pool.
Although the municipality has nothing to do with this. This is a business problem that M-I Stadio wants to solve by kicking out the street vendors.
We will be on our site until we are allowed to work. If anyone thinks that we will get tired, they are mistaken. One thing about street vendors is that they compete ruthlessly with each other, but when it comes to protecting their jobs, they are willing to go all the way, Errico added.
