The Rockets received a $12. 5 million exception due to VanVleet`s injury. The NBA granted Houston the right to use an injured player exception worth $12. 5 million. The reason was a serious injury to point guard Fred VanVleet, who was out for the rest of the season.
VanVleet suffered a torn ACL back in September before the team`s training camp began. The exception gives the Rockets the opportunity to sign or acquire a basketball player for a salary up to that amount to partially offset the loss of a key player.
However, the club is only 1. 25 million below the hard cap, which greatly limits its options. To fully utilize this exception, Houston will need to make additional trades to relieve the payroll.
