Hamilton again encountered problems with Ferrari`s race engineer. The Ferrari driver had some tense conversations with his temporary race engineer Carlo Santi during first practice for the Australian Grand Prix.
So, during one of the episodes, Hamilton asked the engineer to more carefully monitor what was happening on the track.
Hamilton: You should tell me more often who is catching up and who is behind. . . tell me about the distance between me and the car behind.
Santi: Right now, everyone behind you is driving slowly.
Hamilton: You have no idea that the Mercedes that just approached me was driving slowly, so [talk about] everyone coming. . .
Santi: Got it.
In another episode, Lewis demanded better feedback.
Hamilton: I need more feedback on where we`re losing 0. 4 seconds.
Santi: 0. 2 seconds lost in the first sector due to limited power.
Hamilton: I understand it`s 0, 2, but where exactly does this power limitation occur?
Santi: Between second and third. The same thing happens in the second sector. The same is true in the third sector.
Hamilton: Between second and third, it doesn`t help me at all. Are we talking about speed at the apex? Or at the exit of a turn?
Santi: This is a power limit.
Hamilton: That doesn`t help me, mate. Are we talking about the exit of the turn or the apex? I don`t care about the power limitation.
Santi: About the apex.
Hamilton: Okay, is the apex speed too high or too low? Give me more feedback. . .
Cedric Michel-Grosjean, who previously joined the team, is expected to become the Briton`s permanent race engineer during the 2026 season. The specialist previously worked as a performance engineer for Oscar Piastri`s team at McLaren.
