American Venus Williams, who is No. 3 in world rankings, announced it closed this season because of right knee injury.
Most of the Williams sisters has not played since losing its semifinal against US Open Belgian Kim Clijsters, who won the tournament for the second consecutive year.
"Venus is out of the game for the rest of the season," said the captain of the women's U.S. team for the tournament in tennis' Fed Cup Mary Joe Fernandez.
"Too bad that she was again injured and can not participate in the finals," she added. Both Williams sisters had to play the final in San Diego on November 6 and 7 against the contestants for the title of Italy.
Serena, who is absent from the court of his victory at Wimbledon so far through injury of the foot may also be absent from the final of the Fed Cup.
