The former owner of Ajaccio was killed in France. Ajaccio`s former president Alain Orsoni was shot dead during his mother`s funeral.
The incident occurred in the commune of Vero in Corsica on January 12. The shooter is on the run, BFMTV reports, citing sources.
The Ajaccio Investigation Department and the Southern Corsica Criminal Identification Team were involved in the investigation. The Ajaccio prosecutor`s office handed over the investigation to the Interregional Specialized Judicial Office of Marseille (JIRS) and the National Anti-Corruption Prosecutor`s Office (PNACO).
Orsoni was 71 years old and served as president of Ajaccio from 2008 to 2015. He was also involved in political activities: he was a member of the National Liberation Front of Corsica (FLNC) and headed the Paris branch of the separatist organization for 6 years. In 1979, Corsican nationalists carried out a series of bombings in the French capital, including three banks, the Paris Palace of Justice and the headquarters of the Paris police.
On May 14, 1980, a detachment of FLNC fighters, led personally by Orsoni, entered into a firefight in front of the Iranian embassy in Paris. As a result, one gendarme died, and Orsoni was soon captured and sent to prison, where he spent two years. After his release, he returned to Corsica and headed the FLNC branch in Ajaccio. In the late 1980s, he made peace with the French government. After a lengthy struggle with other units, the FLNC fled to Nicaragua. He returned to Corsica in 2008.
In 2008, the Corsican mafia group Sea Breeze Gang organized an attempted murder of Orsoni.
