Nikolaj Ehlers hopes to improve in Carolina. The 29-year-old forward signed a 6-year, $8. 5 million cap hit with the Hurricanes as a free agent.
The Dane changed teams for the first time in his NHL career. Previously, he played for Winnipeg and scored 520 points (225 goals, 295 assists) in 674 regular season games.
I think every player is always capable of something more. I hope that a different style of play and a different culture will make me better.
I think I could achieve this in Winnipeg in some sense. But there was a feeling that I needed to go out into the market, look at the options and challenge myself. I believe that I can improve as a player and as a person. Can`t wait to see what comes of it.
I explained to the Jets why I made this decision. They respected my choice and were happy for me. I was there for 10 years, so leaving was an emotional moment. I loved the club and will always hold this city close to my heart. I will never forget many of the people I met there, ” Ehlers said.
