Red Bull`s chief racing strategist`s move to McLaren has been delayed. In the fall of 2024, it became known that McClaren had managed to negotiate the transfer of Will Courtney, where he was offered the position of sporting director.
Courtney joined Jaguar at the end of 2003 and remained with the team when Red Bull bought him. In recent years, Will has worked alongside Chief Strategy Engineer Hannah Schmitz.
It was believed that, as usually happens in such cases, the teams would be able to come to an agreement and agree on the transfer of a specialist within some short time frame - despite the fact that Courtney’s current contract with Red Bull runs until mid-2026.
Now, as The Race has learned, the specialist`s transfer is postponed and Courtney will continue to work in her position at Red Bull throughout the 2025 season. It is expected that the specialist will complete his contract with Red Bull and only after that will be able to join McLaren.
