The FIA will discuss with manufacturers the idea of returning V10 engines to F1. An official meeting between FIA representatives and Formula 1 engine manufacturers is scheduled for next week - and should take place on the Friday before the Bahrain Grand Prix.
The FIA wants to know the position of manufacturers regarding the possible prospect of returning naturally aspirated V10 engines to Formula 1, which in this case would run on synthetic fuel with minimal emissions.
As Autosport reports, citing its sources in the paddock, the idea of returning Formula 1 to naturally aspirated V10 engines is gaining popularity among the championship participants. At the same time, Audi has already spoken out against this idea and is in favor of continuing to use V6 hybrid engines.
By holding this meeting, the FIA wants to understand whether this idea will receive sufficient support and whether it will be possible to continue moving in this direction.
At the same time, there are more and more supporters in the paddock of the idea that the transition to naturally aspirated V10 engines - either in 2031 or in 2028-would be a smart move. The main argument in support of the return of V10 engines is that the course in the global automotive industry has begun to actively shift from hybrid engines with an electric component towards naturally aspirated engines running on environmentally friendly synthetic fuel.
It is also noted that such a naturally aspirated V10 engine running on synthetic fuel will be much cheaper to develop and manufacture than hybrid engines with electric batteries, which are very complex in design.
