The prosecutor drops proceedings against Jerome Boateng. Der Spiegel reports that the former Bayern defender will not face charges of assault, coercion and defamation against Kasia Lenhardt, his ex-girlfriend who committed suicide shortly after breaking up with the footballer in 2021.
In 2019, prosecutors opened an investigation into Lenhardt`s alleged injuries, but closed it. Following the girl`s suicide, the trial was reopened because there were indications that the injured party had suffered serious injuries shortly before her death and that these injuries could be recorded in the autopsy report.
Earlier this year, prosecutors received an anonymous tip that there was a witness to the incident involving Boateng. This person initially agreed to testify, but eventually stopped communicating.
As a result, it was decided that it was impossible to reliably establish how the events in question actually occurred in October 2019, December 2020 and January/February 2021. The investigation was closed.
Boateng commented on the decision as follows: All my statements were true, all the accusations made were wrong. Thank you to everyone who supported me despite the deep prejudices of others. Finally, my family and I can look to the future with optimism.
