Anthony Duclair took time off for personal reasons amid criticism from his coach. This season, the Islanders forward played 44 games and scored 11 (7+4) points with a minus-15 utility. Duclair missed two months at the beginning of the regular season due to a groin injury.
After a 1-4 loss to Tampa, New York team head coach Patrick Roy criticized the player.
He was just terrible. He had a bad match. That`s why I didn`t give Anthony more playing time. And he was lucky to be included in the squad. Sorry if I`m lashing out at him now, but that`s how I feel, ” Rua said.
The next day, the coach spoke to reporters explaining the situation.
Anthony and I had a very good and positive conversation. He asked me for a leave of absence to sort things out. Of course, I agreed and we will give him the necessary time, ” Rua said.
The Islanders have lost six games in a row and are seven points out of the playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
