Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova commented on the defeat from Arina Sobolenko. She lost to the Belarusian in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open-2:6, 6:2, 3:6.
-at least in this match there was something good, for me the victory, that I won the set. Of course, I am still disappointed, although I did not know what to expect. The beginning of the match was so -so. I did not feel the ball at all. She beat so much, but I could not get on the ball at all.
Plus the conditions were very different from what was in the previous days, because I played during the day and on completely different courts. It seems to me that this is the most difficult for players who are not high enough sown, because we do not have the opportunity to get used to the central court. And in the evening, even more completely different conditions.
So it was very difficult, including psychological terms. I thought: Lord, it`s just ashamed. As if I do not know how to play tennis. But I am satisfied with how I recouped in the second set. I made a break with a score of 1:1, and then I caught the courage, began to play and entered the rhythm. And it was very windy.
Arina played quite stable throughout the match, she is a very complicated opponent. Therefore, when in the third set I lost a little concentration, she immediately intercepted the initiative.
-The last time you played with her in 2021, that is, almost four years ago. How would you describe how it has changed and added during this time?
- it is noticeably more mature and psychologically persistent. Previously, she was knocked out much faster, and according to her body language it was clear that she was upset. In this she added very much. In the third set, when I led with a break, I did not see it was upset or annoyed, she was quite calm. This is her strength.
As I said, she continued to crush and play, regardless of the account. This is a sign of a champion and a good athlete.
