Rublev`s mother: Andrey`s emotionality is very pleasant, very interesting to watch. And he has someone to hit his knees with - I did that when I played1-01-2025 |
Andrei Rublev’s mother Marina Maryenko told why he is emotional on the court. Maryenko gave an interview to the BB Tennis YouTube channel.
– These are the psychoses. . .
– What psychoses? I don’t think he has any psychosis (laughs). Like a normal mother hen, I will defend my son and say that he does not have psychosis, that everything is great for him. I can explain a lot of things: he has been so emotional since childhood, he is charged by these psychoses, he often plays well because of them and he succeeds a lot due to these emotions that he splashes out. When, on the contrary, he is all in himself, I even understand that something is wrong with him, he still restrains himself, and sometimes his ball does not fly as much as I would like.
He will speak out there, say something, and he’ll start to do well. But this is such a moment. . . I think he already knows how to control himself. But there are features that he was overloaded with this information. They would have told him the other way around: Andryukh, this suits you like this (shows thumb up) - and he would have calmed down. But it seems to me that he focused his attention, because maybe many people tell him about this, ask him - and he began to think: Is it really that bad?
And on the contrary, I would tell him: Andryukh, don’t pay attention to anyone at all. Do as you do and have done all your life. Because he doesn`t do anything wrong. In my opinion, he does not have any strong or significant violations. He doesn’t talk there, he doesn’t argue – well, just once – with the judges. . . No, well there (in the semi-finals in Dubai, from which Rublev was removed for shouting at a lineman - Sports) it was offensive, it was actually an accident. But he doesn’t insult anyone, he doesn’t target anyone – he fights with himself.
We know tennis players who behave aggressively, and for some reason their aggressive behavior, aimed at everyone around them, is not noticed or challenged. And for some reason Andryukha was emotional from the very beginning, and everyone carries this wave. And I think that his emotionality is very pleasant, very interesting to watch. Just as I, for example, love watching [Alexander] Bublik - his emotionality is also interesting to me.
– How was the show?
– Of course! This is some kind of game prelude, a game moment. You can’t play this tennis with blinkered eyes and for a whole year never let yourself go anywhere, and not capture the audience and the fans with these emotions.
– Don’t you think that these are two different people – in life and on the court?
– These are game emotions, not life emotions. Andrey does not like to lose, he cannot put up with his loss - he has never been able to come to terms with it since early childhood. If I, as a professional, as a children`s coach, know how many children let go of the game and do not want to fight, give up, many leave the match, begin to complain about injury, then Andrei always fought until the very last moment. Sometimes he even fights too much, which ultimately breaks the course of the game. And this made him a player and an athlete.
– Top.
– Yes, top-notch on top of everything else. Therefore, I believe that this is his main gaming strong point. Well, okay, yes, he is so emotional. Who does this bother? This doesn`t bother me. It doesn’t bother any of our loved ones, but those around us [reason]: If only he would stop. . . Where does it come from?
