Rafael Nadal: I would like to win the final one - this is the only important title that I don’t have31-12-2024 |
Rafael Nadal, after retiring from his career, spoke about what title he would like to have. I was ready [to retire]. It was important that I was 100% ready.
The last 1. 5 years have been very difficult because I have not been able to train regularly and compete at the level I am used to. So I tried my best until the last day. I had hip surgery just to keep playing, but it just wasn`t working as well as it should have.
But I am 100% at peace because I gave it my all until the last day to achieve success and rest assured that I did everything I could to be happy with myself.
My father has been asking me for a long time what I want to do after finishing my career - relax and enjoy life or continue to work? I replied that I couldn’t see my life without goals. Of course, I want to enjoy time with family, friends, and I`ve worked really hard since I was young, so I want to spend time on that.
But I understand that in life it is important to have motivation, to have goals, and therefore I prepared it for the future. I`m excited for a new chapter in life. It’s still very early to talk about it because I only stopped playing tennis a month ago, but I’m very, very happy and I’m just now organizing everything.
Of course, I would like to win the final one. This may be the only important title I don`t have. But as it is. I was a little unlucky because by the end of the season I was not in the best physical shape and often had injuries. And I had difficult opponents, and I played all the finals on indoor fast courts - on hard, and at first on carpet.
But there`s nothing to complain about. If you ask me which tournament I would like to win, it would be one of the final ones. I had chances, but I couldn`t take advantage of them. This is fine.
