Jannik Sinner spoke about progress in the 2024 season. The results did not come overnight. I`ve worked hard over the past few years to become better at playing in big moments. I thought I was a great player when I got into the top 10, but I couldn`t beat the best in the world. So I needed to add something to the game.
Gradually it was possible to achieve this. When Simone Vagnozzi joined the team I started playing with more variety and even now I practice a lot of variations in training. Sometimes it works out well in matches, sometimes not so much. But I know I`m on the right track. We have been working for a year and a half to use these shots in matches. And it was from mid-2023 that everything began to fall into place. Including the serve has become a more important weapon, especially at crucial moments.
[Daniil] Medvedev is the opponent who made me grow as a player. There was no way I could beat him. But I continued to work, found a solution and was able to win in Beijing (before that they were 0:6 in personal matches, now they are 8:7 – Sports’). I won the tournament and it gave me confidence. I won in Vienna, played well in the final and won the Davis Cup. But all this came from work that was done much earlier, from the efforts that I made then. Everything I achieved in 2024 was the result of work the year before.
It was important to finish the season with good statistics against the best players. I was stable - three years ago I reached the 1/8, 1/4, 1/8, 1/4 finals. Two years ago - to the quarterfinals and semifinals. Played semi-finals and finals in the past. I kept getting closer, and this year I played a lot of matches in decisive stages at major tournaments. Now I continue development.
