Brendan Haywood: Michael Jordan, even at 40, continued to come to the gym before everyone else19-12-2024 |
Brendan Haywood shared memories of training with Michael Jordan. Playing with Michael Jordan was a joy. It seemed crazy to me that he was both a player and a general manager. I saw guys hanging out with him and I thought, You realize you`re hanging out with the boss, right? When they invited me to come along, I just stayed in my room and played video games.
But Michael showed me why he was the greatest. Even at 40, he continued to show up to the gym before everyone else, lift with Tim Grover and shoot hoops. His footwork was impeccable. He taught Bobby Simmons, a young player, to read defenders: When you jab, watch how he reacts. If he puts that foot down, go that way.
All of Michael`s actions were calculated. He didn`t just guess, he read body language, anticipated exchanges and always knew the next move. Watching this up close, I realized that this was no accident. It’s all about preparation, ” the former NBA player said.
