Hamilton intends to bounce back from his disastrous qualifying in Abu Dhabi. The Mercedes driver showed the 18th fastest time in qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. During the decisive attempt in the first segment, Hamilton`s car was hit by a limit pole hit by Kevin Magnussen.
The problem is my luck, but everything is fine. We tried really hard to get the settings right, the car was running great, everything looked great in practice three – I really thought I might be on the podium this weekend.
Then during the session we didn`t pick the best time to go to the track because I was the last one there and obviously finished the session right behind one of the Alpine drivers. I just ran out of time, ” Hamilton said.
Lewis also shared his thoughts on his final drive for Mercedes and his chances of having a strong farewell race:
I`ll try. As I said, the car felt like it was performing well. After finishing in the top 5 in the first two practices, finishing 18th [in qualifying] definitely changes the approach to the weekend, but I`m still trying to stay in the fight. I`m still very appreciative [of Mercedes` work].
The car is behaving completely differently this weekend. It`s a lot more fun to drive, so I had high expectations, but it is what it is. I`ll try to win back.
