Grigor Dimitrov recorded a declaration of love for tennis as part of the ATP special section. Dear tennis, you and I have a long love story. We met when I was three years old. I had a very small racket that my mother gave me. Our first meeting took place when I was hitting a ball against a broken wall in my hometown. Our story took a new turn when I came to the courts with my father and he taught me how to play, for which I am very grateful to him.
These years have been filled with love, experiences, joy, incredible moments, and I will be forever grateful for what you brought not only into my life, but into my heart.
It was love at first sight. But it’s not that I fell in love with tennis, it’s more that it came into my life. There was no specific moment when I realized that I would love tennis. He just became a part of my life. And I never looked back, didn’t think about whether I liked him or not. I remember when I was 11 years old, I won a tournament, I think it was in France, and I was sitting at home, looking at the trophy, and then my parents came and I said: This is what I will do. This was probably a turning point.
Tennis, you have broken my heart more than once. I don`t know if I should thank you for this, but I do. I had to overcome these moments, but at the same time you showed me that tennis speaks the language of life.
The most vivid memories of tennis. . . Where to start? Winning the European Championship at 14, junior Grand Slams, amazing runs against the greatest tennis players, winning special tournaments and everything that made me smile big.
