Hirakawa will practice for McLaren on Friday. For Ryo Hirakawa, this will be his first experience driving a Formula 1 car in an official session during a race weekend.
Hirakawa joined McLaren`s program last year and is one of the team`s test drivers, actively working in the simulator. Previously, he also conducted private tests for McLaren driving the MCL36 and MCL36 cars.
Hirakawa has extensive racing experience - at the age of 30 he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2022, and became WEC champion in 2022 and 2023.
In Abu Dhabi, Hirakawa will replace Oscar Piastri at the wheel of the McLaren car.
At the same time, Patricio O`Ward will drive for McLaren in the tests that will take place in Abu Dhabi the week after the Grand Prix, at the end of the season.
