Karun Chandhok: Fans of Hamilton, Verstappen, Norris talk about Sky bias. You can`t please everyone27-11-2024 |
Chandhok responded to Sky Sports criticism of bias. Sky Sports reporter and former Formula 1 driver Karun Chandhok is convinced that fans of various pilots are not able to objectively evaluate the work of commentators on the British channel.
Oh yes, my Instagram is full of all sorts of people talking about my bias. Unfortunately, this is our job when in public you come across Lewis [Hamilton] fans who think you are biased towards Lewis. There are Max [Verstappen] fans who think you`re biased towards Max. There are Lando fans who say: Why are you so anti-Lando?
Strange, isn`t it? People sometimes fall so in love with their favorite racer that objectivity is thrown into the dustbin. I understand their passion, but our job is to be objective.
Ultimately I don`t care. I really don`t pay attention to comments because it can consume you. The main thing is that I myself know about my impartiality.
I express my opinion. If someone did great, I say so. If someone made a mistake or deserved criticism, I will criticize. In this sport you quickly realize that you can’t please everyone. This is normal - you need to learn to take this calmly, ” said the Indian commentator.
Chandok agreed that the situation among F1 fans reflects the polarization in society as a whole:
I think so. Nowadays everyone has a platform to speak, so everyone has an opinion. Perhaps people only pay attention to the negative. I can say 2, 000 amazing things about Max, 2, 000 amazing things about Lewis, Lando, whoever. But once they say something bad, their fans will focus on it.
At the same time, Karun emphasized that people attacking commentators on social networks make up a small proportion of fans:
Ultimately, we broadcast to millions, and only a tiny percentage do not like your opinion. It`s okay as long as the audience generally enjoys your work and your lighting. We are all very lucky to work in such a great sport and travel the world talking about what we love.
