Carlos Alcaraz: I live with my parents and three brothers. For them, I`m not a tennis star, but an ordinary guy13-08-2024 |
Carlos Alcaraz spoke about the role of family in his life and career.
When the tournament ends, whether I won or not, I want to go home and be with my family. I live with my parents, older brother and two younger ones (Alvaro is 24 years old, Sergio is 15, Jaime is 13-Sports). For them, I am not a tennis star, but an ordinary guy.
One of the features of tennis is frequent travel, and my dad and older brother travel with me. My brother is my sparring partner. But mom can’t travel because she’s taking care of the younger ones. It`s nice to come home because I miss them. The longer you are away, the more you realize how much you need them.
Mom is a great cook. She makes very tasty paella. And also Spanish dishes from Andalusia - my favorite soup and cold cuts. This is another reason why I love being at home.
My father never had to force me to play tennis. Vice versa! At the age of six I was in a group three to four days a week. But even on Sunday at eight in the evening, when there was no one in the club and the lights were off, I asked my dad to go to the courts to play some more.
If dad couldn`t, I just hit the ball against the wall. When you are four or five years old, you don’t know what you want in life, but I understood: I like it. I liked to hit the ball and see what happened.
