Alcaraz and Rune claim the ATP Progression of the Year award, Thiem and Wawrinka – Comeback of the Year11-08-2024 |
The ATP has announced the names of candidates for the ATP Awards 2022 in five categories.
Comeback of the Year:
Borna Coric. After shoulder surgery, he won the Cincinnati Masters and returned to the top 30;
Dominic Tim. After a wrist injury, he reached three semi-finals and finished the year near the top 100;
Stan Wawrinka. After two foot surgeries he returned to the top 150;
Ibin U. Returned to the tour after a 3-year break and reached the third round of the US Open.
Progress of the year:
Carlos Alcaraz. Started the year 32nd, finished first and won five titles, including the US Open;
Maxim Cressy. Started the year outside the top 100, finished 32nd and won one title;
Jack Draper. He debuted in the top 50, although he started the year ranked 265th in the world;
Holger Rune. Won the first Masters and two more ATP titles, finishing the year 11th.
Rookie of the Year (award for players under 21 years of age finishing in the top 100 for the first time this season):
Rune. 19 years old, won tournaments in Munich, Stockholm and Paris;
Draper. 20 years old, won four Challengers;
Jiri Lehechka. 21 years old, won one Challenger and reached the semi-finals of the Rotterdam tournament;
Ben Shelton. 20 years old, won three Challengers in a row;
Chun Xin Tsen. 21 years old, won two Challengers.
Stefan Edberg Award for Sportsmanship and Fair Play:
Alcaraz;
Rafael Nadal;
Felix Auger-Aliassime;
Casper Ruud;
Francis Tiafu.
Coach of the Year:
Juan Carlos Ferrero (Alcaraz coach);
Frédéric Fontan (Auger-Aliassime);
Goran Ivanisevic (Novak Djokovic);
Michael Russell (Taylor Fritz);
Christian Ruud (Kasper`s father and coach).
The winners in the first four categories will be determined by the players, and the coach of the year will be chosen by the coaches.
