Toto Wolff believes that there is no need to investigate Perez’s accident in Monaco: There are already enough PR crises around Red Bull5-08-2024 |
Formula 1 teams see no need to investigate Sergio Perez`s crash in Monaco.
The Red Bull driver crashed into the barriers in the final minutes of qualifying, causing Max Verstappen to fail to improve his time and remain behind his team-mate. According to the Dutch press, the accident was intentional, and Verstappen took revenge on the offender at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Mercedes executive director Toto Wolff recalled that there are already many scandals surrounding Red Bull.
We don`t have data. GPS is pretty bad in Monaco. And second, I have known Sergio for a long time. Would a racer send the car into a wall and risk breaking the gearbox? It was possible to go to the very back of the grid after such an incident. In my opinion, if you park a car, you need to do it differently.
There have been enough PR crises surrounding this team over the past few weeks. I don’t think there’s a need for another one, ” Wolff said.
Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto expressed similar thoughts:
I don’t think there is any need today to investigate what happened in Monaco. It`s hard to judge from the outside. And this is a question for the FIA, they have data. I am quite sure that they studied them at one time.
McLaren CEO Zach Brown agrees with his colleagues:
The incident with Perez happened quite a long time ago. If there are things that deserve investigation, you need to act quickly. We`re talking Monaco to Abu Dhabi - I guess the train has already left.
