Jannik Sinner commented on the victory over Tallon Grixpor in Halle.
He beat the Dutchman 6:7 (8), 6:3, 6:2. This was the Italian`s first match as the first racket of the world.
– I just love playing tennis. That`s all. This is, of course, a significant milestone. But deep down I know that I can still improve. I was looking forward to returning here to such a special place. Five years ago, this tournament believed in me and gave me a wild card. This is a special event for me.
I`m just glad to get on the court healthy. I had problems with my hip. So the most important thing for me is that I can play without pain. “Everything went well today, ” Sinner said in an on-court interview.
I ran from one corner to another. I was just trying to get to the ball and make him play that extra shot. He was under pressure, playing out a break point. . . Somehow I managed. This moment gave me confidence - I took his serve for the first time. Mentally, I understood that if I made one break, there would be a second. I`m glad. He`s a great player and served great today. I`m pleased with the performance.
