The Pairs Masters in Madrid was held in a new format for the first time3-08-2024 |
In April, the ATP changed the rules for doubles tournaments. The Masters in Madrid was the first to be held in the new format.
Now, with a 32-pair bracket, 16 spots will be reserved for players who want to play using the singles ranking.
In some cases, players will have their serving time reduced. If there were fewer than four hits in the previous rally, players will only have 15 seconds instead of the standard 25.
During the first transition in a match, players will be prohibited from drinking, and the rest of the transitions will be 60 seconds instead of 90.
During doubles matches, spectators will be able to move freely around the stands, excluding the back line area.
Also during the two-week Masters, matches will take place in the second week from Tuesday to Saturday.
