World No. 82 Matteo Berrettini defeated No. 12 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinals in Gstaad – 7:6 (6), 7:5.
The Italian beat an opponent from the top 15 on clay for the second time in his career (with six defeats). The first was in 2019 at the Masters in Rome in a match with Alexander Zverev.
Berrettini reached the final of the Swiss tournament for the third time. In 2018, he took his first title, defeating Roberto Bautista Agut, and in 2022 he lost to Casper Ruud.
This will be the eighth clay final of his career and 15th overall.
Berrettini will return to the top 60 on Monday.
Tomorrow he will fight with Kenten Alis, to whom he lost in 2015 at the ITF tournament.
