Association of European Clubs against the new Super League: Message from an alternative reality. In the real world, this idea has already been discussed and rejected19-07-2024 |
The European Clubs Association (ECA) has criticized the new idea of the Super League.
Previously, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are preparing to restart the European Super League. The updated tournament format will include from 60 to 80 participating teams, divided into divisions and no permanent members.
The ECA, which is led by PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, published a statement on its website.
The ECA takes note of the latest message from the alternative reality of A22 (the company promoting the European Super League - approx. ). However, in the real world, this rehashed idea was already proposed, debated, and outright rejected by all stakeholders in 2019.
This is simply another deliberately distorted and misleading attempt to destabilize the constructive work currently being undertaken by football`s stakeholders to move forward in the overall interests of the European club game.
As the only body recognized by FIFA and UEFA to represent clubs at European and international level, and the only body through which clubs have real representation in decision-making, the ECA reiterates its long-standing opposition to the European Super League and any splinter projects from it.
In recent years, the ECA has achieved significant progress and positive change in collaboration with all football stakeholders - UEFA, FIFA and confederations, national associations, leagues, fans, players and clubs of all sizes - working for the benefit of the entire European football ecosystem.
From 2024, more clubs from more countries will compete in European men`s club competitions each season, increasing passion for European football and significantly increasing the amount of revenue distributed.
Significant progress is also being made in other aspects of the game, from women`s football, youth team development, academies, finance and regulation to sustainability and social impact.
This is what real change looks like. We`ve made progress, but when will A22 do it? – the statement says.
