Daniil Medvedev answered how surprised he was by Sebastian Korda`s performance in an interview with correspondent Maxim Yanchevsky.
Medvedev was eliminated in the third round of the Australian Open, losing 6:7 (7), 3:6, 6:7 (4).
– It’s not that I was surprised, he, in fact, just played well and received well. He played either a little better than his level, or at the level he is at now, because he is young, maybe he had a good pre-season and will play like that all season. Accordingly, 100% with such a game it will be in the top 10 soon. I played just a little below my good level. This was the difference, because, in principle, the match was close, but in the end it was three sets. I also won a lot of such matches, and today I lacked this confidence in myself, in my shots and in some important moments.
– In fact, of course, it’s a shame, because I always want to stand higher, and play better, and win big tournaments. But I feel that what I am doing now in training, in life, let’s say, should lead to the return of good results. But even if it doesn’t, I’m doing everything I can, and I can’t do better (laughs). Because if you practice 20 hours a day, it won`t help you play better. Therefore, I am doing everything in my power and I hope for myself, for the sake of the fans, that the results will return, and most importantly, that the game and such hard-willed victories will return.
