Red Bull driver Max Verstappen does not see any logic in the current super license system.
The Dutchman became the only driver in history to make his Formula 1 debut before the age of 18. After this, the FIA banned minors from participating in the championship and introduced a modern points system.
Mercedes junior Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who competes in Formula 2, scored the 40 points required to obtain a super license, but the Italian is not yet 18 years old.
The rule was introduced because of me. Ultimately, it does not prevent what it was introduced to achieve.
It`s not about [Antonelli] specifically - the rule can prevent talented drivers from quickly getting into Formula 1, because first you need to score 40 points. I`m not a big fan of the whole system.
The FIA thinks [the rule] is good, but I would prefer it not to exist. If a person is 17 or 18 years old and, say, has 20 points, but is very fast, why can`t he get into Formula 1? , ” the three-time world champion expressed bewilderment.
