Gauff on the spectators at Roland Garros: I like it when people are passionate about the match. Even when I watch my little brother play, I want to make some noise8-06-2024 |
Coco Gauff loves the loud crowd support.
I like it when the stands are full and people are passionate about the match. I know that during a rally the noise from the stands can be disturbing, especially when the sound is unexpected. I think it`s better when it`s constantly noisy.
If you put yourself in the shoes of a spectator, to some extent it is difficult [to contain your emotions] because you are watching a match in which a lot is at stake. Even when I watch my little brother play, I want to make some noise. Sometimes it`s difficult without it. It seems to me that for the most part the audience treats the players with respect. But, of course, it happens that it doesn’t.
If I have to pick a favorite court, besides the US Open, I`ve been enjoying playing on the Susan Lenglen Court for the last two days. In the past, I probably wouldn’t have named it, but there were so many children there. They cheered for me very loudly, and I didn’t expect it.
Usually when I play Lenglen the audience is calmer and more relaxed. But for some reason this year, I don’t know, maybe something has changed with the tickets. Don`t know. Every time I played there, there was a group of boys, different, but all under 12 years old, and they cheered very loudly. I liked it very much. And they treated their opponents with respect, and I like it when everything is that way.
