Aymeric Laporte explained why he decided to play for the Spanish national team rather than France.
The footballer was born in France, but has Basque roots. He began his professional career at Athletic Bilbao.
– There will always be people who are unhappy. The same thing happens with food and drinks, there are people who like some things and not others.
But for most people, I`ve noticed a lot of support in Spain, I feel the love. I am honored to feel this connection with so many Spaniards.
- Everything has changed. Instead of saying that I am French, they value me even more now, they tell me the exact opposite.
At one time I decided to play for the Spanish team. I was convinced by both the coach and the philosophy of the country, in which I feel very good.
“I identify much more strongly with the Spaniards, and the Spaniards give back to me the love that I had for them in my time and that I still feel to this day, ” said the Manchester City defender.
