Lakers forward Rui Hachimura chose his jersey number in memory of the legendary Kobe Bryant and his daughter Canna. Club owner Ginny Bass spoke about this.
This is a really difficult time. I asked our new recruit, Rui Hachimura, if he had chosen a number. And he said: Yes, I`ll take number 28. 2 is in honor of Canna, and 8 is in honor of Kobe. At that moment, I realized that everything would be fine with the guy, ” Bass admitted.
Hachimura recently transferred from Washington and was officially introduced as a member of the Lakers on January 23. Kobe and Canna Bryant died on January 26, 2020 in a helicopter crash.
