FIA President called on motorsport to fight online insults: Toxic levels reached a critical level26-11-2022 |
FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem has spoken out about the need to counter online harassment in the motorsport community.
Ben Sulayem emphasized that they have become a stain on our sport, and the level of persistent toxicity has reached a critical point.
The President spoke about the measures taken: dialogue with online platforms, authorities and other sports organizations, the study of online hate in motorsport and the use of artificial intelligence to identify and eliminate offensive content on FIA social networks. In addition, a concerted campaign will begin in the coming months, using the power and reach of the entire Federation of 224 motoring and sports organizations in 146 countries on five continents.
Passions run high in sports, but online harassment, insults and hate cannot be tolerated. Everyone involved in our sport - press, teams, pilots and fans - has a role to play. We cannot ignore it. I call on the entire motorsports ecosystem to take a stand.
We must act. This must stop, ” bin Sulayem concluded.
In recent weeks, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen and fellow Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton have spoken out about the toxicity of social media.
