George Russell spoke about a special approach to the fight with a partner in Mercedes.
Russell started the Mexico City Grand Prix second, but lost ground in the starting corners to Lewis Hamilton and then to Red Bull driver Sergio Pérez.
The last four races came out pretty chaotic.
I knew I could overtake Max [Verstappen] on the outside in the firstLewis was in a fight - if there was any other rider, and not my partner, I would probably just squeeze him out of the track, Russell explained in an interview with Sky Sports.
George also shared his thoughts on the course of the race, which he finished fourth, and strategic decisions:
At the beginning of the race, it was important to work with the tires. I thought that Cheko would start running out of tires [soft], and to some extent it did, [so] I wanted to extend the length on the medium. At the end of the race, I attacked with all my might, but [on hard] the car went like on ice.
Probably, Pirelli brought too hard lineups: the soft had to be made into a medium, and the medium into hard. It was like we were riding an ultrahard.
It`s easy to think in hindsight. We saw that Latifi put on hard, and he showed green sectors, Lewis on hard too - we decided that this was the right choice. But already on the second lap we realized that hard tires do not work. It`s very interesting what would happen if they extended the period on medium and switched to soft - something like the strategy of Daniel [Ricciardo], who had a strong race.
