Bournemouth players also stop kneeling before matches20-02-2021 |
The Bournemouth players ended the practice of kneeling before matches of the English championship. Team captain Steve Cook explained that the gesture no longer meant so much in the fight against racism and discrimination.
`Fighting all forms of discrimination and striving for equality for all are very important things for everyone on the team, ` Cook said in a statement on the club`s official website ahead of Saturday`s second division match against Queens Park Rangers.
Zaha announced his refusal to kneel in the future in support of Black Lives Matter
`For us, however, this is much more than a gesture that already seems meaningless. It does not have the effect it had nine months ago. Each of us is trying to be a role model on and off the field, but we also needfrom support from social networks and institutions. We want to see more cases than gestures. `
Days earlier, Crystal Palace striker Wilfried Zaha expressed the same opinion, and last week the Brentford players stopped kneeling.
