Roma head coach Paolo Fonseca criticized the relentless schedule of the matches his players face on the eve of the winter break in Serie A, and questioned whether his team is treated fairly.
The Portuguese spoke before the match against Turin in the capital on Thursday. This is the only match of the day in Serie A and comes at least 24 hours later than most of the matches in the middle of the week.
I don`t understand why Roma is the only team to play on Thursday, less than 72 hours before the next game. We have to pay attention to the condition of the players. We play three games a week, so it`s hard to change the preparation. The results are motivating, but changing things is complicated because we are not actually training, but recovering, Fonseca said.
Roma are currently sixth in the Serie A standings, six points behind leaders Milan, and their meeting with Torino will be the eighth 24-day match for Fonseca`s team due to Europa League commitments. The Wolves will travel to Atalanta for a match at 7pm on Sunday, and earlier in the day Torino will host Bologna at 1. 30pm. Then there is one final round on Wednesday, December 23, before the league takes a break until SundayJanuary 3.
