Kay Nishikori parted with his longtime coach

17-10-2019

Kay Nishikori has split with his longtime coach Dante Botini, who has been at his headquarters since 2011. The Japanese himself announced the news on his Twitter profile on Tuesday.

After nine years of working together literally every day, I decided it was time for a new voice, wrote Nishikori, who is currently treating an elbow injury. I will always be grateful to Dante and his contribution to my career and it is obvious that we will remain very close friends. I appreciate very much the last nine years of our friendship.
It is not yet clear who will succeed the 40-year-old Argentine in the Nishikori team, writes The Japan Times, citing sources close to the tennis player. Kay is currently ninth in the rankings and is expected to return to the tournament in Vienna, but may end his season due to injury. However, he participated in a demonstration match with Roger Federer, organized by Uniqlo in Tokyo.

The Japanese, who was eliminated in the third round of the US Open by Alex de Minor, announced nearly a month ago that he was suffering from a injury.
I have some good and some bad news. Over the last few days, my medical team and I have continued to monitor the elbow injury that has plagued me since Roland Garros. The good news is that there is great progress, it is recovering, and I am close to playing without pain soon. My arm and elbow look good. The bad thing is that I`m not 100% ready yet. There is still swelling and fluid in them and the doctors think it would be best for me to spend another 3-4 weeks without tennis.
The key is to follow this advice so that I can be sure that I will no longer feel discomfort and that the fluid and swelling will completely disappear. To hit tennis balls for 3-4 hours a day will not allow me to recover.
