The case with a possible heavy punishment for Manchester City, which has been much talked about in the last week, is now undergoing a new development. UEFA has announced that the chairman of the Financial Control Commission, Iv Leterme, has referred the case to the UEFA Financial Control Authority`s Chamber of Justice after the former Belgian Prime Minister has made his recommendations to that last instance. All this means that the investigation is over, and Leterme and the members of the Commission have obviously found enough reason to refer the case to the court of justice, which has to make its decision. For several days it has been argued that the majority of committee members are of the opinion that Manchester City has broken the rules and deserves to be thrown out of the Champions League for a year. Manchester City welcomed today`s news with a new statement in which the club expressed disappointment with Yves Leterme`s decision to refer the case to the final court. Nevertheless, they hope that the final decision of the independent judiciary will be in their favor. The investigation against City began after a series of materials in Der Spiegel last year, dedicated to sponsorship schemes through which the club circumvents the rules of the financial fairy tale.
