The three-time champion of Roland Garros Serena Williams overcame the second round of this year`s race. The American beat three sets Ashley Barttie - 3:6, 6:3, 6:4. The Australian managed to take the set of her renowned rival, but then Serena recovered and made a turn.
Barty started the game absolutely equal to Williams and in the sixth game he managed to break into the first, to zero, to lead 4:2. By the end she did not miss the initiative and won the 6:3 set in her favor. And the second set went well for the Australian who made a new break at zero, but it seemed to anger Serena, who back in the next game, and then another at Barty`s second serve game, to lead by 4:1. Then the American was already controlling the set and came to 6:3 with the score in the match.
The third set was a bit controversial, but Bartti made another early break in the third game and then, despite his efforts, failed to get back and Williams greeted with 6:4.
Serena finished the match with 65% successful first serve and 70% winning points with the first one. The second and serve, however, cheated and he had only 56% success points. She has made 28 winners and 36 unforced errors, also making 9 aces and 4 double errors. The next rival of Serena Williams on the 1/8-final is 11th German German Yulia Gorges, who made two sets 7:5, 7:6 (5) with Alison van Whitwank from Belgium.
