The champion from 2009 Lleyton Hewitt (Australia) exited in the first round of the tennis tournament on red courts in Houston (United States) with a prize pool of $488225. 34-year-old Hewitt, a former No. 1 in the world, lost from the Soeda It (Japan) 6-4, 6-7 (3), 3: 6, 2: 36 am. Hewitt needed just two wins in Houston, to become the seventh player in the Open era since 1968 that has at least 100 wins on hard courts, grass and clay.
The Australians, however, lost the second set after a tie-break and in the third part Soeda won, 6-3.
Hewitt has in his career 367 WINS on hard court, 128 of the grass and 98 red courts.
Boris Becker, Jimmy Connors, Roger Federer, John McEnroe, Stan Smith and John Alexander are the other players with at least 100 victories on all three surfaces.
Hewitt is now 109-and in the ATP world rankings and took part in the tournament with a "wild card". He's already announced that he will end his career after the Open Championship of Australia
next year.
For the second round is ranked number eight Sam Kueri (United States), who led 4-1 in the first set, after which Anand Matosevic (Australia) withdrew due to an injury to his left leg. Federico Delbonis (Argentina) have over Berankis Rikardas (Lithuania) with 6: 2, 7: 6 (5). Sam Groth (Australia) fell 17 ACEs and eliminated Victor Estrella Burgos (Dominican Republic) with 7: 6 (3), 6-4. The Spaniard Fernando Lopez is the number 1 seeded and will play with Sam Groth in the second round
