The champion for 2012 and finalist from the US Open Kay Nishikori started with victory the tennis tournament in Tokyo with 1.23 million prize dollars. In front of 10,000 Japanese fans Nishikori beat Ivan Dodig (Croatia) with 6: 3, 6: 4 for 84 minutes and qualified for the second round.
