Caroline Wozniacki became another major name in women's tennis, which was eliminated from the tournament in Sydney. The former world No 1 lost in two sets - 4:6, 6:7 (7) - by Lucie Shafarjova and showed she still is not in optimal shape.
The Dane had a trouble a lot against Julia Goerges (Germany) in the first round, but against the Czech the game was quite similar, but Shafarjova took the right decisions in key situations. Wozniacki managed to lead with 3:0 in the first set but her opponent managed to find the cracks in the game and eventually won the part. The second favorite was very close to winning the tiebreak, but Shafarjova again showed fighting spirit and took the match.
In the next round number 27 in the world will face second-seeded Petra Kvitova in the quarterfinals.
