Federer split with his coach after difficult year15-10-2013 |
In the end of a really tough year with zero appearances in finals of a Grand Slam, Roger Federer has decided to part with his coach Paul Annacone.
Federer, who has a record 17 grand slam titles, said on his website that he will stop working with Annacone after 3 and a half years cooperation.
"After a series of discussions, we decided that this was the best time and path for both," the statement reads. The separation comes two days after the last surprise elimination of Federer. Gal Monfils defeated Federer in the third round of the tournament in Shanghai with 6-4, 6-7, 6-3.
The defeat hurt the chances of Federer for the finals of the ATP, where goes first eight singles players. Federer ranks seventh in the world rankings at the time.
