Serena Williams defended her title in Madrid after defeating emphatically Maria Sharapova with 6-1, 6-4 in the final.
Today's game was a lot more at stake than the trophy in Madrid, after the tennis players fought who will take the world number one and obviously with her victory, Serena was able to maintain the status quo as Number 1 in the world rankings.
This is the 50th title for Williams in her career in singles, and the the American remained unbeaten by Sharapova in 12 meetings since 2004.
