David Ferrer qualified for the second round of the Miami Masters after beating Fabio Fognini with 6:1, 7:5. This was the third victory for Ferrer over the Italian this season and six of six games played against him.
In the next round the Spaniard will face Kei Nishikori, who defeated Xavier Malisse after 6:2, 7:5. This will be the fifth meeting between them, and so far Ferrer and Nishikori have separated two victories.
Next continues and the veteran Tommy Haas, who was adamant against Alexander Dolgopolov - 6:3, 6:2. On knockout round the German most likely will face Novak Djokovic, who earlier should beat Somdev Devarman.
