Rafael Nadal made a triumphant return to the hard courts, winning a place in the third round of the Indian Wells tournament with an easy win over the American Ryan Harrison.
Placed only fifth in the tournament, which won in 2007 and 2009, Nadal played his first match on hard court for almost a year. After a few tense moments in the first set, he managed to beat the 73 th in the world Harrison with 7-6, 6-2 for an hour and 33 minutes.
The former number one, who was out for seven months with a knee injury, returned with two titles and one tournament finals on clay in Latin America. The Spaniard came to a quarterfinal with Federer.
